Restructuring the electric industry; will competition help or hurt consumers?

Article Abstract:

The electric industry is undergoing restructuring, raising concerns on whether increased competition will benefit rate payers. Restructuring is occuring by opening the industry to greater competition. For example, seven states in 1996 mandated customer choice of power providers, creating competitive markets. Proponents of competition claim that lower prices will result, but skeptics doubt this. Utilities can also resist restructuring, seeing it as a threat to their customer bases.

The jury system

Article Abstract:

The O.J. Simpson trial made more clear to many Americans the role of the jury system in US justice administration, and most agree that some changes may be needed. The unanimous verdict requirement has drawn heavy fire, seen by many as a waste of time and money. Others, especially big business and Republicans, are calling for less jury control over some civil suits. These issues, as well as the effects of race in jury selection and jury decisions, are discussed.
