Ruined imputation: falling corporate tax rates are another reason for investors to reassess imputation funds

Article Abstract:

The reduction in Australia's corporate tax rate to 30% has reduced the relative value of the imputation system. All investors should now review the role of imputation benefits in their investment procedures. Attention should be given to the after-tax return produced by different investment options, not to the pre-tax return.

Don't discount this advice: how to avoid being slugged when investing in managed funds

Article Abstract:

Discount brokers in Australia are competing for clients of single stock transactions as well as for clients who wish to invest in managed funds. Clients pay no upfront fees in this latter transaction. Information on managed funds can be transmitted to the client electronically, and clients can contact fund managers directly. Discount brokers earn money from a small percentage fee paid by the fund manager.

Frankly my dear, I do give a damn

Article Abstract:

Investors with different needs must be wary when investing in imputation funds. Although the funds may receive a high amount of realized capital gain, they could also unnecessarily give the investor a higher level of taxable income, which may not carry imputation benefits. Investors that want to remain in the lowest marginal tax bracket must investigate the funds beyond their headline performance.
