Rothschild Inc investment banker Wilbur Ross represents some of the creditors of the insolvent Eaton's department store chain. Eaton's announced in Aug 1997 a restructuring plan, but Ross is attempting to block that plan because it causes the creditors to assume too much risk.

Alpha Star Canada Inc and Star Choice Television Network are the first two Canadian firms to offer direct-to-home satellite-TV services, but their market share is still relatively small. They face stiff competition from US firms and the new wireless cable-TV market.
