Up in the air: long-distance competition squeezes new phone companies

Increased competition among long distance companies in Canada after deregulation of the industry is causing many new long distance companies to have financial problems. Rogers Communications is hedging on whether to buy part of Unitel, a larger long distance company that is in debt.

The Canadian entertainment industry is thriving and having some success marketing its products in the US and other international outlets. Although, the industry is a risky investment, some people have made fortunes. Alliance Communications Corp and other firms are discussed.
