Article Abstract:

The Australian Wine Society has banished two members who were instrumental in resurrecting the society from difficult financial times in the mid-1980s. John Stanford resigned his position as chairman of the board in 1996 and has since been attacked by the Society for conflict of interest. Lance Hogan was dismissed from his staff member position. High-profile wine industry leaders say Stanford and Hogan have been mistreated.

The Independent Commission Against Corruption is investigating charges that prison officers are involved in the violence that is increasing at New South Wales prisons. Allegations include an attempt to kill a Goulbourn jail prisoner, the murder of an informant and protection of a cabal of corrupt and brutal officers from the effects of prison reform attempts.
