Renting software and the skills to go with it

Many companies are taking a new path when acquiring software programs for their individual businesses. Instead of buying the software needed and hiring a technician to teach them how to use it, they have turned to renting the software. In this type of arrangement, the software company would handle this part of the business for them, saving money, time and manpower.

The future, through Microsoft's glasses

Article Abstract:

Microfost held it's grand media event to introduce the company's vision for a new generation of services, ".NET". In the wake of a government antitrust case, the software giant plans to offer a "cloud" of Internet services to be accessed by a mirage of personal devices from cameras and cell phones to small "tablets". Software for talking computers and "interactive paper" are among some of the new products and services that Microsoft chairman Steven Ballmer has alloted about $2 billion for reserach and development. The company strategy for subsriber-paid "interactive services" will be years in fruition.

Software start-up is using phone message technology

Article Abstract:

Sunnyvale, CA-based NotifyMe Networks Corp. will begin to use its new voice-message technology with its business customers. The new technology allows business customers to send NotifyMe a Web message if a customer's status has changed (orders, bids, canceled flights, etc.) and NotifyMe's software converts the Web message to a voice message which is sent out to the customer's telephone. Cnet Auctions, NextJet and ServiceStop are three companies using NotifyMe's new service.
