Suzuki rolls out car models for American tastes

Article Abstract:

American Suzuki Motor, which has a puny 0.3% of the US market, aims to hit the 1% mark by 2005. Suzuki has been seling motorcycles in the US since 1963, but has been selling cars only since 1985. It is trying to get its large base of motorcycle customers to try Suzuki automobiles. In 2000, American Suzuki began marketing its motorcycles and marine engines along with its vehicles to leverage the greater awareness it has in those businesses. It launched the SX concept car, a click cross between an SUV and station wagon, a t the New York auto show in Apr 2001.

CEO wants leaner, meaner Chrysler

Article Abstract:

DaimlerChrysler North American CEO Dieter Zetsche is out to bring the automaker back to profitability afer a projected loss of about $1.7 billion for the second half of 2000. The company will lay out a restructuring plan in Feb 2001 that must be bold enought to impress shareholders who have seen the market value of Chrysler evaporate. Zetsche aims to accomplish cost-cutting measures, economies of scale, labor negotiations and restructure incentives to get away from cash-back and cut-rate leases.

GM earnings fall on soft European sales

Article Abstract:

General Motors shares were downgraded on Oct 12, 2000, after the automobile manufacturer reported a 5.5% drop in 3rd qtr 2000 net earnings to $829 million, partially due to a $181 million loss in Europe. Earnings per share rose to a 3rd qtr record $1.55 because of ongoing stock repurchases. Third-quarter earnings were posted at $829 million on revenues of $42 billion. The company's shares closed down $1.25 to $57.38 on the New York Stock Exchange on Oct 12, 2000.
