Teleglobe buys Williams lines for $200-million

Montreal, Que.-based Teleglobe Inc. has acquired a fiber optic network Tulsa, Okla.-based Williams Communications Group Inc. for $200 million. The 22,400-kilometer fiber optic network, which links thirty major cities in the United States, is currently under construction by Williams.

BCE chairman assures Teleglobe shareholders

Jean Monty, the chairman of BCE Inc., has offered assurances to shareholders of Montreal, Que.-based Teleglobe Inc. in regard to BCE's acquisition of Teleglobe. Montreal, Que.-based BCE has been forced to seek emergency financing for the long-distance telephone company.

Teleglobe shareholders to vote on BCE offer

Montreal, Quebec-based Teleglobe Inc., which is a long-distance telephone company, has submitted BCE Inc.'s acquisition bid to its shareholders. Montreal, Quebec-based BCE offer approximately $7.6 billion for the 77% of Teleglobe it did not already own.
