Terror times two

Article Abstract:

Simultaneous bombs exploded outside two US embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. These explosions claimed the lives of a dozen Americans, 100 Kenyans and Tanzanians, and injured more than a 1000 civilians. Countries from around the world airlifted medical supplies, food, and water to help cope with this attack.

Marketplace romance

Article Abstract:

A book by Daniel Yergin and Joseph Stanislaw entitled 'The Commanding Heights' describes how the frontier between the market and the state has changed. The work discusses how economic activities have been dominated by market forces and how the government's role in guiding the economy has been unquestioned. Critics of the book feel it does not place the global economy in a broad historical context.

Beyond history's shadow

Article Abstract:

President Bill Clinton and Chinese President Jiang Zemin contend they have a common view, but news headlines in the US point to another direction. The Republican Congress has already launched two investigations on whether Chinese officials influenced the 1996 presidential election, and whether the transfer of sensitive nuclear technology to China was legal.
