Article Abstract:

The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA) has not been effective in controlling the wave of illegal aliens into the US. These illegal immigrants take risks and accept hardship for low wages and harsh working conditions. While there is talk of a national identification system, the lenient requirements of IRCA has generated the trade of counterfeit documents. A survey showed that 2/3 of the American population want tougher measures to regulate immigration. However, most experts say that illegals are probably not the drain on the economy they are perceived to be.

Article Abstract:

The need for protection of marine mammals is in conflict with the interests of the fishing industry. Fisherman often kill sea mammals when they, either, get caught in fishermen's nets or are shot at since they too hunt fish for food. The issue of whale hunting is becoming more complex as certain species of whales are no longer in danger of extinction. The United States Congress is considering whether they should allow controlled whaling.

The issues

Article Abstract:

The US military has decided to finally face the different problems that surround the issue of women in the military. The highly publicized Tailhook incident of 1991 has brought to the forefront the issue of sexual harassment. Another issue of concern is that of allowing women to participate in active combat duty. Women feel that they should be allowed an equal opportunity to serve in positions that have been previously confined to men.
