Upscale hotels trim weekend rates to fill rooms

Article Abstract:

Some upscale hotels are offering cheaper rates to fill more rooms during the weekends. Their objective is to compete with the growing number of limited-serice hotels where rates can be half as much. Weekend rates have gone down by 1.5% while weekend occupancy has declined by 2.8% in 2000. In comparison, weekday rates have gone up by 7.5% as compared to 1999 figures. According to hotel analysts, the best deals can be found in cities adding the most limited-service rooms, such as Chicago, IL, Dallas, TX, and Atlanta, GA.

Aiming to please women

Article Abstract:

Travel and lodging businesses are devoting more attention to the needs of their female customers, who are projected to account for half of all business travelers in 2002. While it makes good business sense to cater to the needs of an expanding clientele, travel businesses are also finding out that improved services for women also have beneficial, albeit unintended, consequences for male travelers.
