Convection suppression in horizontal solar collectors using density stratification

Article Abstract:

A simple laboratory experiment demonstrated a new method for convection suppression in flat solar collectors. The new technique applies density stratification to the space between the absorber and the cover of a solar collector through the input of highly-concentrated vapour near the absorber and low-concentrated vapour near the cover. The gradient is controlled by saturation vapour pressures at set temperatures whose guidelines were formulated during the study.

Calculation procedure for collectors with a honeycomb cover of rectangular cross section

Article Abstract:

Important parameters such as material choice, geometric dimensions and cell wall thickness should be taken into account in designing a highly efficient solar collector with honeycomb cover. The optical and thermal properties of the thermal absorber and the transparent cover, the two basic elements of a thermal solar energy component, are determined by observing the impact of parameter variations such as film thickness and aspect ratios on real material.

Performance simulation of solar collectors made of concrete with embedded conduit lattice

Article Abstract:

A solar collector made of glass-reinforced concrete and embedded with a lattice of conduits paves the way to a low-cost solar energy collection. This type of collector differs from the conventional flat-plate thin-fin collector in its geometric and characteristic parameters. The low overall efficiency of this concrete collector is compensated by its low cost, making it possible to construct a collector of relatively larger surface area.
