Electricit de Strasbourg - R sultats

Article Abstract:

Electricit de Strasbourg made a turnover of FFr 2.794bn, down 2.3% from 1996. This drop in turnover is partially due to the 4.5% drop in prices in April 1997. The group's profits dropped slightly from FFr 92mn in 1996 to FFr 97mn in 1997. Electricit de Strasbourg is optimistic about the future. More than 150 communes, which represent 80% of its clients have renewed the concession contracts for a 40-year period in 1997. Another 100 communes also renewed their contract in the first quarter of 1998. Electricit de Strasbourg's goal is to make its electrical services more competitive, which will make it stronger as it faces the liberalisation of the European electricity market in 1999.

En France/

Article Abstract:

EDF-GDF (Electricit de France-Gaz de France) is by far the leading operator on the energy sector in France. Under the 1946 law, the state-owed company EDF holds a monopoly on electricity transport, imports, and exports, and it has a near-monopoly in the electricity production and distribution domain. GDF has a near monopoly on gas transport and distribution and a total monopoly on gas imports. ELF and Total are present in gas production in France, but this activity is marginal in France, representing 8% of the country's total supplies, and is expected to disappear after the year 2000.
