Statistical shell game

Article Abstract:

The pro-active stance taken by the EPA regarding particulate matter regulation may effect large costs for utilities without bringing the desired effects in public health. A number of private and EPA scientists are still in the dark as to which particulate matter significantly affects public health. The stringent clean-air legislation is something of a costly catch-all strategy, economic effects of which will be clearly shouldered by the utilities and consequently, by the consumers.

Mobile sources, utility players

Article Abstract:

Air-quality problems are attributed mainly by mobile sources, such as vehicles, but stationary sources, such as electric utilities, are usually blamed because they cannot hide. One technological alternative to these mobile sources is the development of electric vehicles (EV). By working towards EVs, utilities enhance relations with policymakers and constituents, including environmental groups, particularly through clean-air transportation issues.
