Active enantiomers may cause adverse effects in asthma

Article Abstract:

The enantiomers of several adrenergic beta agonists have been observed to contribute to the adverse effects associated with the use of these agents in the treatment of asthma. The biologically active enantiomers of these racemic mixtures sometimes cause deleterious effects which reduce the potency of the pharmacologically beneficial enantiomers. Removal of these unwanted enantiomers can improve the efficiency and stability of beta adrenergic sympathomimetic drugs.
