Who plays for what?

Article Abstract:

CKD Praha Holding (CKD) (Prague, Czech Republic), holding engineering company, has a chance to recover in 2000. The firm's general assembly at the beginning of Aug 2000 decided to decrease its stock to 10% of the current CEK 4.7 bil. Then, the firm should re-increase its stock to CEK 5.5 bil by the capitalization of the receivables of the largest creditors Konsolidacni banka (Czech Republic), state bank, and the National Property Fund of the Czech Republic. They should hold a 80% stake in CKD. CKD is improving its economy in 2000. Its consolidated profit amounted to CEK 167 mil for 1H 2000. The firm saw a loss of CEK 7.3 bil for all 1999. Some proposals for CKD's bankruptcy appeared in 2H 2000. A reason for the declaration of CKD's bankruptcy could be the effort of speculators to acquire some of the lucrative buildings and land CKD owns in Prague.

Mr. Clean goes splat

Article Abstract:

Assemblyman Ted Lempert used ethics reform for congress as his platform during his campaign. However, his campaign tactics were in contravention of the principles which he supposedly stood for. He used misleading ads in the media to undermine the credibility of his opponent. His actions elicited criticism and complaints, prompting an investigation from the Center of Ethics and Economic Policy. The San Mateo and Santa Clara-San Benito county labor councils withdrew their endorsemant of Lempert as a result of his unethical conduct.
