GERMANY: CHILDREN'S VACCINE MARKET

Article Abstract:

According to professor Wolfgang Jilg, member of board of the vaccination commission of Robert Koch Institute, says that about 98% of children in Germany are vaccinated. The number of births in Germany exceeds 700,000 annually. Each child gets about 24 vaccinations, with the pharmaceutical costs along amounting to DM 600 to DM 1,000 per child. About 24% of vaccination doses used in Germany are for the basic protection of children. However, basic vaccinations for children contribute 44% of the vaccines turnover of the pharmaceutical industry. About 16% of the 54mn vaccinations in Germany in 1999 were for travellers, who account for 28% of the turnover of the vaccines market.

GERMANY: NEW SGL UNIT FOR CORROSION PROTECTION

Article Abstract:

From the beginning of 2001 Wiesbaden-based SGL Carbon AG is to concentrate activities in the field of corrosion protection in Germany within SGL Alcotec GmbH in Siershahn. Worldwide, the corrosion protection division of SGL generates an annual turnover of about DM 500mn. It claims to be the sole supplier of complete systems rather than just materials and components. Due to the costs of restructuring, the Siershahn-based division is expected to merely break even in year 2000.

GERMANY: SIMULATION SOFTWARE FOR AUTOMOTIVE R&D

Article Abstract:

DaimlerChrysler is developing a simulation software that allows the testing of automotive materials before application in prototypes. Beside helping vehicle designers to choose the most suitable materials for each application, the software should allow the evaluation of the state of the material after it has been processed into an automotive part as well as the testing of the crash properties of materials.
