Article Abstract:

A recent law review article illustrates the use of exaggerated emotional rhetoric to compensate for lack of conviction. The article concerns a public health study testing newborns' blood for HIV antibodies in which the identities of those testing positive is unknown. The article compares this to a syphilis study in which patients were left untreated to study the progression of the disease, equates the research to 'indiscriminate surveillance' and eventually brings in the Nazis. This sort of hyperbole depletes the language of means to express real moral outrage.

Behavior of interface pressure distribution in a single bolt-flange assembly subjected to heat flux

Article Abstract:

The thermal behavior of a single bolt-flange assembly is investigated taking into account the effects of thermal loading, interface pressure distribution and the thermal deformation of the joint and joint surroundings. Results show that the sinusoidal-like distribution of the interface pressure affects the thermal behavior of the bolted joint. The bolted joint with the geometrical specification was found to be in thermal stability except for a short period after thermal loading.
