Article Abstract:

The Scroll of Esther, a holy scripture about the story of the salvation of the Jews from Haman, does not evoke spirituality. God is never mentioned but a feast is described. Among the themes are folly, wine, food, women, and role reversal. The main reversal is one that takes place between the Persian oppressors and the Jewish oppressed.
