Letter from the Vatican: common objectives for peace

Article Abstract:

US relations with the Vatican have significantly improved since the establishment of its embassy to the Holy See in 1984. The embassy is engaged in promoting US policies of peace, stability, freedom, democracy and protection of human rights. The warm reception of the Pope on his US visits reveals Americans' growing awareness of religion's importance in their social and political lives. The US and the Vatican have managed to influence each other's actions in international affairs for mutual benefit.
