SIgnificant legal events took place in every month of 1995. Many are summarized by month of occurrence. Events highlighted include certification of nicotine-dependent smokers as a class, New York's passage of a new death-penalty law, the decision that juries should not interpret patent claims, Mumia Abu-Jamal's win of a stay of execution, the class action filed by the Oklahoma City bombing victims against a fertilizer maker, OJ Simpson's acquittal, and congressional approval of the Securities Litigation Reform Bill.

Technology as a topic for moral deliberation

Article Abstract:

There are tremendous barriers in reconciling the values of science and technology in academic institutions with the traditional ideals of constitutionalism and democracy. Social and moral tensions abound in the relationship between these two. When technology promotes ethical good, the dichotomy between the values of the academe and that of the public sector is not pronounced. However, there are many instances wherein this dichotomy becomes glaring.
