The legal status of affirmative action: past developments, future prospects

Article Abstract:

The affirmative action program has become one of the most controversial and heated topics of debate in legal and business circles since the 1970s. Detractors continue to criticize the legal status of the movement as the system loses the support of courts and state governments across the country. A new movement towards the promotion of diversity programs is taking place in federal and private firms as the population itself becomes more mixed. However, such systems may only be short-lived in the absence of laws which enforce them.
