Stratospheric ozone protection: IR theory and the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer

Article Abstract:

International relations theories provide explanations as to why chlorofluorocarbon producers and users have participated in the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. These include the structural realism theory, the hegemonic stability theory, the modified structural realism theory and the neoliberal institutionalism theory. Knowledge-based approach, domestic politics approach and the two-level game approach are also used.

Japan's changing approach to environmental issues

Article Abstract:

Japan has adopted a positive attitude towards environmental protection in the last ten years. It will cement its support of environmental policy to prevent stratospheric ozone depletion by holding the Third Conference of the Parties to the Framework Convention on Climate Control in Dec 1997. The government actively supports a democratic approach to environmental planning which encourages citizen participation.
