Urgent circular on strengthening supervision and control over drugs and medical instruments used for atypical pneumonia prevention, diagnosis, and treatment

Article Abstract:

An urgent circular issued by the State Bureau for Food and Drug Supervision and Control dated April 21, 2003, promulgates stipulations addressed to local food and drugs bureaus, focusing on the process of drug approval and coordinated efforts for safe and adequate supply of medicines and devices for severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) prevention, diagnosis and treatment. It waives the requirement for clinical trials for new drugs already approved for sale in markets outside China, and calls for fast-tracking the approval process for new SARS drugs and devices.

Urgent (extra urgent) circular on strengthening the work of supervision and control over medicines for atypical pneumonia prevention and treatment

Article Abstract:

The State Bureau for Food and Drug Supervision and Control, State Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Health, State Administration of Industry and Commerce, and State Bureau of Traditional Chinese Medicine Administration jointly issued an extra urgent circular dated April 21, 2003, on enhancement of supervising and controlling medicines for severe acute respiratory syndrome prevention and control. Subordinate bureaus should monitor and provide adequate supply of safe medicines and also control their prices for effective use.

Urgent circular on the work of atypical pneumonia prevention and control in village and township construction

Article Abstract:

An urgent circular dated May 9, 2002, was issued by the Ministry of Construction with regard to issues related to atypical pneumonia or SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) prevention and control work in village and township construction. It urged local units to conduct a systematic check on local sanitation infrastructure, separate the drinking water sources of humans from those of domestic animals, and upgrade and renovate garbage and wastewater disposal facilities.
