Binge eating disorder and obesity in 2003: could treating an eating disorder have a positive effect on the obesity epidemic?

Article Abstract:

This article explores the relationship between binge eating disorder and obesity. The author, analyzing literature relating to etiology, risk factors, pathophysiology, and treatment of binge eating disorder, concludes binge eating disorder may be a contributor to obesity, however treatment of binge eating disorder has little impact on weight loss.

Pharmacologic treatment of binge eating disorder

Article Abstract:

This article examines the effectiveness of pharmacologic treatment of binge eating disorder. The authors, analyzing the results from a placebo-controlled study, conclude antidepressants, appetite suppressants, and anticonvulsants are all effective in the treatment of binge eating disorder.

Psychological and dietary treatments of binge eating disorder: conceptual implications

Article Abstract:

This article evaluates the effectiveness of psychological and dietary treatments of binge eating disorder. The authors maintain both approaches demonstrated improvements in the reduction of binge eating behavior, but did little to help in weight loss.
