Friendship expectations among immigrant adolescents and their host peers

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on friendship expectations between Soviet adolescent immigrants and their Israeli host peers. Results show that the adolescent immigrants put more importance on aspects of friendship expectations, such as assistance, status, similarity and harm avoidance, than their peer hosts. Immigrants think that their host peers have higher friendship expectations of status and similarity while the hosts see assistance and harm avoidance as the major factors in the immigrants' expectations. Immigrant friendship expectation and social distress correlation was also established.

Parental views of popularity and stress among adolescents

Article Abstract:

Seven hundred forty-two parents were surveyed to determine their views on which factors contribute to the popularity and stress of their adolescent children. They identified friendliness and strong personality as the primary factors influencing popularity among adolescents, followed by high grades, acceptance from the opposite sex and physical attractiveness. Meanwhile, they singled out high expectations, in terms of grades and career decisions, as the main causes of stress among adolescents.
