Intimate partner and nonintimate violence history among drug-using, incarcerated men

Article Abstract:

This article examines factors associated with violent behavior among substance abusing inmates in a state prison. Findings indicate that men who engaged in both nonintimate and partner violence demonstrate more emotional problems, drug use, abuse victimization, and family conflict than nonviolent prisoners and those who only engage in nonintimate violence.

Self-identified alcohol abusers in a low-security federal prison: characteristics and treatment implications

Article Abstract:

This article examines factors associated with alcohol problems among male inmates in a low-security prison. Findings indicate that prisoners who identified themselves as alcohol abusers have higher incidences of personality pathology, experiences with domestic violence, anxiety disorders, and problems with other kinds of substance abuse.

Characteristics of inmates admitted to Grendon Therapeutic Prison and their relationships to length of stay

Article Abstract:

This article examines the relationship between psychological characteristics of inmates and their length of stay at a psychiatric prison in the United Kingdom. Findings indicate that variables such as age, level of hostility, neuroticism, emotional stability, and intelligence influence the length of inmates' incarceration.
