Metacognition, risk behavior, and risk outcomes: The role of perceived intelligence and perceived knowledge

Article Abstract:

Two key variables in social metacognition that include perceived intelligence and perceived levels of knowledge about a specific content domain are explored. Higher levels of perceived knowledge about the accurate use of birth control were associated with a higher probability of the occurrence of a pregnancy independent of actual knowledge about accurate use, perceived intelligence, self-esteem, and academic aspirations.

Volunteer support, martial status, and the survival times of terminally ill patients

Article Abstract:

The possibility that volunteer support could influence how long terminally ill patients survive is examined. Results indicated that when baseline health status effect was controlled for (p< .0002), patients in the volunteer support condition survived significantly longer than did patients in either unvisited condition (p < .0001).

Dispositional optimism, trait anxiety, and coping: Unique or shared effects on biological response to fertility treatment?

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine the unique and shared predictive power of psychological variables on reproductive physical health. Results indicated that three months before fertility treatment, 97 women completed measures of dispositional optimism, trait anxiety, and coping.
