Redintegration and the benefits of long-term knowledge in verbal short-term memory: An evaluation of Schweickert's (1993) multinomial processing tree model

Article Abstract:

An investigation into the impact of four long-term knowledge variables on serial recall accuracy is presented. Study showed a distinctive pattern of recall responses for four long-term knowledge phenomena, equivalent rates of totally incorrect recall responses for memory lists varying in lexicality but a vital influence of word and nonword phonotactic frequency and language familiarity on completely incorrect recalls.

The demonstration of short-term consolidation

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to illustrate the role of central processing mechanisms in the encoding of information in short-term memory. In this study, distinctions between three types of encoding were established. These include sensory encoding, perceptual encoding and short-term consolidation. Results showed that encoding information in short-term memory requires a distinct process called short-term consolidation.
