The horror reaction and its importance

Article Abstract:

Horror functions as a limit on human adaptability, preventing malignant adaptations that would offend against morality or aesthetics. The horror reaction develops rapidly through a series of stages including perception, comprehension, evaluation and impact, attempted rejection, conflict, anxiety attack and recession. Desensitization through repeated exposure can act as a defense against the horror reaction.

Experts predict that pollution from car exhaust will begin to rise again about 2010 as the number of cars and miles traveled in cars increases, especially in developing countries. The technology exists to cut the main pollutants by 50%, but the incentives to implement the technology are too weak.
