The interaction between brief and very brief psychotherapy: allowing for flexible time limits on individual counseling services

Article Abstract:

The conduct of very brief psychotherapy (approximately 1-5 sessions) should help to curtail the waiting lists of clients seeking psychotherapy. This model has been found to be effective and it would be ideal for clients who need very limited engagements for individual counseling. The time saved during the very brief psychotherapy sessions could be allotted to serve the needs of those who need more time for counseling. This type of psychotherapy would also permit therapists to establish control over their work.

The rape of psychotherapy

Article Abstract:

Negative reports of psychotherapy in the media concerning controversial clinical practices are posing threats to the disciplines of psychotherapy and psychology. Marketplace changes implemented in the name of cost containment undermine the foundations of professional practice, thereby eroding public confidence in psychological care. Therapists are increasingly reluctant to take on complex cases for fear of legal suits, complaints and negative publicity.
