The rules of the game: teenagers communicating about sex

Article Abstract:

There are few differences between boys and girls in their understanding of the social rules for encouraging or avoiding sex. Although direct messages about sexual desire are the most accepted and useful ones, few strategies are acceptable or useful in avoiding unwanted sex. Acceptability is moderately correlated with usefulness for all strategies for both boys and girls. Relationship between usefulness and use of strategies is stronger for boys than for girls. Boys and girls should accept and use direct and explicit rules to communicate clearly and avoid misinterpretation.

The social context of adolescent sexuality: safe sex implications

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to determine the sexual attitudes and behaviors that lead adolescents to engage in unsafe sexual acts. Based on interview results, seven aspects of sexuality were chosen and measures of four of these were constructed. The aspects studied were permissiveness, double-standards, the Id-factor and romance. Gender differences were found only in degree of permissiveness. Attitudes on the other components were found to be related to risky sexual behaviors.

Predictors of close family relationships over one year among homelessness young people

Article Abstract:

Predictors of perceived family bonds were examined among homeless young people who initially left home one year earlier. Family bonds at one year were predicted in multivariate regression analyses by having significantly fewer problem behaviors when leaving home and decreasing rates of problem behaviors over the next year.
