Tree and forest characteristics influence sleeping site choice by golden lion tamarins

Article Abstract:

The physical characteristics of frequently used sleeping sites, infrequently used sleeping sites and randomly selected forest locations at multiple spatial scales are compared in order to understand why lion tamarin rely on tree holes as sleeping sites. Macro-level habitat characteristics are not very helpful in predicting the sleeping site locations of lion tamarins as are the topography of the area micro-level and tree characteristics.

Diet, foraging, and use of space in wild golden-headed lion tamarins

Article Abstract:

The results from the first long-term investigation of wild golden-headed lion tamarins (GHLT) in the Una Biological Reserve, Brazil, are described. The results suggest that the need to search for food resources in relatively large home ranges, and the reliance on a limited number of sleeping sites are the main factors that shape GHLT ranging patterns at Una than resource defense.

Golden lion Tamarin sleeping-site use and pre-retirement behavior during intense predation

Article Abstract:

Sleeping-site usage for ten groups of golden lion tamarins (GLTs) within a population that suffered profound decline as a result of predation at sleeping sites is discussed. It was seen that groups significantly increased their travel speed just before entering the sleeping site.
