Valley rises to the challenge

Article Abstract:

City Challenge status was allocated to the Dearne Valley, which covers 146 ha in South Yorkshire, in 1992, and most of the valley has now also been classed as a Development Area. The Dearne Valley Partnership brings together the agencies which run the valley, and it is now undertaking an extremely ambitious regeneration project. It can benefit particularly from its Development Area status, as this allows financial incentives to be offered.

Weathering the storm: activity in the retail and development sectors will help York return to a state of equilibrium

Article Abstract:

York council's economic bulletin recorded the lowest levels of business confidence during the winter, since 1992. However York could return to a state of equilibrium with English Patnership's purchase of a 48 acre site at Holgate which would improve infrastructure and access. The loss of the ABB railway engineering works has been offset by MAFF's new headquarters at Sand Hutton.
