A role of her own Makin

Article Abstract:

Claire Makin has been appointed chief executive at the Royal Institiute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). Her previous experience includes work at Price Waterhouse and DTZ Debenham Thorpe where she was head of management consultancy. She argues that members of the RICS should articulate their needs in order for the RICS to meet them. She aims to improve the telephone answering service at the RICS headquarters, make the entrance more welcoming and standardize reports.

Outward bound?

Article Abstract:

The market for out-of-town retailing is expanding rapidly, despite the UK government's efforts to contain out-of-town development. Many retailers are now moving out of town centres, choosing out-of-town sites instead. However, High Street retail sites still offer some advantages, and are currently proving particularly attractive to fashion retailers. High Street shops focusing on fashion, gifts and leisure are likely to continue to thrive.
