Clean sweep brings boom

Article Abstract:

The traditional retail areas in the city of Manchester, England are facing stiff competition from a rash of new, upmarket developments which threaten to take away business and introduce a new leisure-oriented way of shopping. King Street was originally the main retail area in Manchester, although the construction of new shopping centres, with cheaper rents, has encouraged some of the more important retailers to leave the area. Property developers believe the major shift of shops will be beneficial for the centre.

Overseas link-up

Article Abstract:

A 6 billion pounds sterling European Union grant could bring massive changes to the industrial face of South-West Wales during 1999. The investment would be allocated by the Welsh Development Agency (WDA), which is seeking to channel funds towards the more disadvantaged areas of South-West Wales and Swansea. The WDA would like to see more investment from private companies in England, although many are under the misconception that the Welsh economy is still relatively industrial.

Drinking to success

Article Abstract:

Majestic Wine Warehouses are hoping to open an additional 70 new stores throughout the UK, to add to their 80 stores already operating in the UK. They look for sites around 3,000 sq ft-3,500 sq ft with at least six parking spaces. The management are prepared to pay around 30,000-35,000 pounds sterling per year in rents for new properties. They admit the UK government's regulations restricting out of town development has made finding suitable premises more challenging.
