Defence strategy

Article Abstract:

The decommissioning of sites owned by the UK Ministry of Defence is making available valuable land for residential and commercial development in Hampshire, England. However, some agents believe that the disposal of this land may only provide a partial solution to land shortages in the county. Indeed, a number of sites are already allocated in the county's unitary structure plan to 2001 for housing use. Others may only permit a small number of homes. It will still be necessary to use greenfield sites if Hampshire is to meet the government's projected housing requirements of 56,000 by 2011.

There is a shortage of high quality office accommodation in Stevenage, England, and this has made it difficult for the town to attract new occupiers. However, this situation now looks set to change. TBI is developing the 2,044 sq mt Solar House at Hillsway, while 4,181 sq mt has become available at Scottish Provident's Meadway Corporate Centre. There is also a shortage of industrial space, and rental levels have now reached around 62 pounds sterling per sq mt.
