Entertaining hopes

Article Abstract:

Ipswich, England, is undergoing several new leisure development projects, with the retail market experiencing increasing trading opportunities. The office market is slow and industrial space limited, with little speculative development planned for either market. The Buttermarket centre has not been popular but occupancy of the retail units has increased, particularly with Bhs moving into the centre. The northern area of the city will be enhanced by the construction of the 20 million pound sterling Virgin cinema complex. Felixstowe, England, offers industrial and warehousing facilities.

Makeover mode

Article Abstract:

Hermes plans to redevelop the Broadmarsh centre in Nottingham, England, into a regional shopping centre. This scheme would involve constructing new units which will operate as separate city blocks but be connected by a covered streetscape. The company states that Nottingham council is willing to support the project with compulsory purchase orders. Some agents believe that redeveloping Broadmarsh would allow Nottingham to maintain its retail position, while others feel that there may not be enough retailers to make the scheme feasible.

Weighing up the prospects

Article Abstract:

High Wycombe district council has agreed plans to redevelop the town centre. MAB is in charge of developing the 16 acre site and more leisure facilities have been included rather than office buildings. The main priority is to include a department store in the town centre, plus another 36 shops, a nightclub and 37 homes. MAB wants to be on the site by 1999 and finish the project by 2001. There is still a lack of space for pubs to open in the area.
