Gates open

Article Abstract:

There is continued uncertainty about future retail property trends in Cambridge, England. Local planners have dropped support for Chesterton Sidings' planned 100 million pounds sterling mixed-used retail scheme to the north-east of the city, and are now backing a city centre development by Shearer Property Group and BZW. The city is in great demand from retailers, and there is more than 70,604 sq mt of unsatisfied retail demand. A lack of speculative building is limiting office supply.

Tug of war

Article Abstract:

Bracknell Forest council has linked with a consortium of real estate developers and funders to draw up plans for a 27,870 sq mt retail scheme designed to revive retailing in Bracknell, England. This would involve 102,190 sq mt of retail space on two floors, with two anchor stores. The town's office property market is experiencing mixed fortunes, with institutions generally being unwilling to invest speculatively. There is a particular lack of medium-sized, high-specification offices.

Boom town blues

Article Abstract:

The retail property market in Wilmslow, England, boomed in the early 1980s, and this is now having negative repercussions. Rents have dropped to very low levels, and there are many retail units available within the prime location. Experts believe that leisure developments will be the key to reviving the town's property market. The office property market was badly affected by the recession, but there are now signs that a revival could be taking place.
