Giants stalk Square Mile

Article Abstract:

Some property experts contend that the merger of large corporations will not necessarily lead to large office developments in the City of London, England. Other property agents point out that there are only 10 sites of sufficient size to house developments of 500,00 sq ft. They emphasize that some multinationals are likely to require more space, with several indicating they are considering a move to new premises, in London, between 1997-2002. Swiss Re have purchased 750,000 sq ft of space in the City, for a new office building, costing 100 million pounds sterling.

Beyond the dome

Article Abstract:

The UK Millennium Commission has mainly come to public attention because of controversy over the Millennium Dome in Greenwich, London. However, it actually has a much wider role. It is making available a total of 1.24 billion pounds sterling for civic improvement schemes, and has become a key driving force behind large-scale commercial redevelopment. The Phoenix Initiative in Coventry, England, for example, aims to revive the north-east section of the city centre, while the Millennium Square will regenerate the centre of Leeds, England.
