Article Abstract:

Self service storage operators Space Station is opening a new warehouse in Slough, England. The 42,000 square feet site, ready from March 1997, will offer storage containers on three levels. The company introduced the self service storage concept to the UK in the 1980s, renting out storage space in former shipping containers on a site near Heathrow Airport. Space Station purchased a property in Brentford in 1992, where it lets units of 25-200 square feet at rents of 12-22 pounds sterling per square foot per annum.

An instinct for preservation

Article Abstract:

The city council of Birmingham, England, has given considerable attention over recent years to conserving the city's historic buildings, which have considerable significance in the context of the industrial revolution, according to Christopher Hargreaves, head of conservation at Birmingham City Council. The city now has 25 conservation areas and almost 1,800 listed buildings. The conservation team has a wide range of responsibilities, including working with English Heritage on improvement schemes.

Amtrak Express Parcels aims to begin operating from its new 7,897 sq mt distribution hub at Richardson Developments' Merlin Park industrial scheme in Birmingham, England, at the end of May 1998. It has been able to configure this building to meet its own requirements, and welcomes the fact that it offers room for further expansion. It is seeking to expand its network further, and plans to create four or five regional hubs in various locations in the south and north Midlands.
