Too much of a good thing

Article Abstract:

There have been mixed reactions to moves by the UK government to speed up the sale of surplus public sector land and property. Some observers believe that there is a danger of overloading the market with surplus public sector land. They warn that lack of cooperation could cut the prices which the government could obtain for land because of conflicts between public sector-owned sites which are pushing values down. It is now time to establish a single agency to control the disposal programme, according to Lord Finsberg, deputy chairman of the Commission for the New Towns.

Channelling resources

Article Abstract:

Investment in television advertising in the UK exceeded 3 billion pounds sterling in 1995, and is expected to continue rising at 6-7% a year. However, significant changes are taking place within commercial television broadcasting. ITV is facing strong challenges from other terrestrial broadcasters, while satellite broadcasters are constantly adding channels. The cable sector is expanding rapidly too, with more than 140 franchises having been awarded to cable-operating companies so far.
