Own up to ownership

Article Abstract:

A number of legal cases heard in the UK courts have defined the position of managing agents of property in relation to the law. The Divisional Court decided Camden London Borough Council were correct to serve an abatement notice on the managing agents for a property in Camden, London. The managing agents would be obliged to fulfill the abatement notice and make a claim on the owners for recompense. Some tenants are unaware the managing agents are not their landlords. A 1979 case gave the managing agents the right to object the high level of rates as they paid the rates rather than the owner.

Local government reorganisation

Article Abstract:

The restructuring of local government will affect many different aspects of business and society in the UK. There is a strong trend towards outsourcing and centralisation, but local government still holds considerable power. For the property industry, this is seen most clearly in the planning process, which is still mainly administered at local level. It now seems inevitable that a system of unitary local government will be established, although there is still considerable opposition to this from some sources.
