Over the hill

Article Abstract:

The Queens Square shopping centre in West Bromwich, England, one of the Black Country towns, is going to be refurbished at a cost of 7 million pounds sterling. Demand for retail space remains strong in Walsall. Several developments are planned for Oldbury, such as a designer village. The status of the Merry Hill development near Dudley may reclassified, to make it a town centre, which would make planning permission much easier to obtain when it is expanded. Some new leisure developments have gone ahead in the centre of Dudley but the retail industry has been affected by Merry Hill.

Dearth of new build

Article Abstract:

Local agents are concerned about the lack of industrial space in and around Belfast, Northern Ireland. They point out several retailers are looking for space to house their distribution centres with no success. The agents partly blame the Industrial Development Board for Northern Ireland who seem to be unwilling to release land for distribution purposes. Land owned by the Belfast Harbour Commissioners is unsuitable for distribution companies as rents can reach 20,000 pounds sterling per acre which is too costly for the industry.

Supply in demand

Article Abstract:

There is a lack of supply of good large industrial space in Leeds, England, which has led to some firms working with developers to build their own space. New-builds can be constructed within nine months. Although there is also a lack of suitable sites for industrial buildings. Some firms have looked to nearby towns for space. Local agents suggest any firm looking to relocate within Leeds should be prepared the search is likely to take some time. Older space is over priced despite its lack of quality.
