Raising the tone of the neighbourhood

Article Abstract:

British building developers should confer with hotel operators before they consider incorporating hotel space into their mixed-use development. Hotel operators have some special requirements, such as long leases and accessible sites. They often prefer to be on an individual site in order to keep control of their own business and the location. Developers need to understand the other outlets, within the scheme, are very important to the hotel. Hotel operators may not wish to be near other restaurants or shops which do not fit in with their style and potential customers.

Page writes his own meal ticket

Article Abstract:

Pizza Express Chairman David Page suggests property agents should be more careful when sending information to prospective buyers and choose sites which are suitable for the business they are targeting. Pizza Express prefers to use different builders and architects on each project. They are planning to expand both in Europe and the UK during 1999-2000. Page points out each restaurant has its own style and he confirms they have already opened up several pasta restaurants. Page reiterates they do not have plans to make Pizza Express into a pizza delivery company.

Power breakfasts

Article Abstract:

Many hotels in the UK are now finding that breakfast meetings make up a significant proportion of their breakfast business. The full English breakfast remains popular among people attending business meetings, but there is also growing awareness of healthier options. It has also become more common for people to visit restaurants or cafes for business breakfasts. Property agents feel that there is an overall lack of breakfast venues.
