Self-development builds your career

Article Abstract:

Surveyors who manage their continuing professional development (CDP) with care and consideration will find they are able to utilize their achievements to gain additional expertise which could lead to new business. Surveyors may use a Personal Development Planner which helps them to ensure CDP is worthwhile and it will help them to recognize areas in which they need to improve. A record of CDP can be used to give added information in interviews. Qualified surveyors are expected to undertake CDP lasting at least 20 hours per year or 60 hours within three years.

Issues of quantity and quality

Article Abstract:

The number of graduates from accredited surveying courses has risen and the RICS will no longer regulate the supply of graduates from such courses. The widespread unemployment amonst surveying graduates has led to a fall in demand for places on courses, which in turn has meant that universities have reduced the minimum entry qualifications in a move to meet student number targets.
