The drive for money

Article Abstract:

The local authorities in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, England, are trying to revive the retail market in the town centre by purchasing 5 acres of land. They are hoping to make an joint agreement with a development company and build a mixed use development of offices, retail and leisure outlets. Watford, Hertfordshire, has become a favoured destination for leisure operators. The 20 million pounds sterling retail centre on the outskirts of Watford opens in 2000. The retail market in nearby towns, such as St Albans and Rickmansworth are adversely affected by the popularity of Watford.

On the right track?

Article Abstract:

Some observers suggest the completion of the Tramlink in 1999, will help improve the demand for offices in Croydon, London, England but demand for space is predicted to fall in 1998. Richardson Developments have purchased Grants department store which has been empty for several years. Swan Hill had planned to renovate the building into a 35 million pounds sterling leisure and retail complex but they decided not to go ahead. An unused site near East Croydon train station is being fought over by two developers who both want to build a leisure development on the 7.7 acre site.
