Tight fit for office space

Article Abstract:

Demand for office space in Greater Manchester, England, is exceeding supply, with little prime secondhand space available. Demand is particularly high for office space in the vicinity of Manchester Airport. Local agents report few speculative developments in progress although some refurbishing of older properties has gone ahead. Hamilton Houses, in Altrincham, has undergone a 1.5 million pounds redevelopment. Some new developments are being built, creating about 188,000 sq ft of new space. The lack of land for new office buildings in the south of Manchester has been beneficial to Warrington.

Flight or fight

Article Abstract:

Demand for retail space in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, England, remains buoyant, with some speculative office development going ahead. A plan to redevelop the former Alconbury airfield has been highly criticised by some local people who fear the site may still be used for flying. The protestors want the site to be redeveloped into a business park and for new houses. Supporters of the warehouse scheme, under consideration by the authorities, point out new offices and housing will increase pressure on the already over crowded A14 road.

Kiss of life

Article Abstract:

The office sector in Liverpool, England, is depressed with a large outstanding supply of unwanted buildings particularly in the city-centre, where some 1.2m sq ft of space remains vacant. Despite the slow office market two new office developments in Queens Square and Princes Dock have increased interest the area. Some offices are being converted into residential properties which observers welcome as being very important to revitalize the city-centre.
