The way we were

Article Abstract:

The modern property industry in the UK has its origins in the 1950s and 1960s, when the improving economy and the lifting of post-second world war restrictions on building materials allowed businesses to expand. Until the 1970s, most property developers seemed to come from other areas of business, such as law or construction, but the new generation of property developers has been nurtured by people such as Geoffrey Wilson. The property market withstood mixed economic fortunes in the 1960s and 1970s, and then really began to expand in the 1980s.

A better but not a booming year

Article Abstract:

UK 1996 property prices are rising at a steady rate of 7% per annum but are not rising as fast as those in the late 1980s. Some analysts fear a slow down in market growth due to increased mortgage rates. Property price increases vary according to their relative market positions during the recession. Between 1.25 million and 1.3 million property sales occurred during 1996.
