Turning the quay

Article Abstract:

Rialto Homes is planning to build a residential development in Paddington Basin, London, UK, at a cost of 150 million pounds sterling if planning permission is granted by Westminster Council. The area has been designated a Special Policy Area and regeneration must encompass the area as a whole. The council is to publish a planning brief for the Paddington Basin area so that companies know what the planning limitations and expectations will be. One of the main sites has been bought for three million pounds sterling by European Land and other companies are also interested.

New town revival

Article Abstract:

British housing developers have modified their choice of development sites to avoid planning difficulties experienced during the 1980s. Housing schemes of a limited size are being proposed at sites less likely to raise public objection. Brownfield sites in rural areas or lower grade greenfield sites in built up areas are popular choices for development. Some redevelopment is taking place. Housing developers have to work within strict guidelines of the 1990s development plan system.

Standard dashes to buy Ford's Iveco site

Article Abstract:

Ford Europe has sold its 26.2ha site on the M4 motorway at Langley, England, to Standard Life. The latter concern had initially been backing the sale of the site to Iveco Ford Truck, which occupies the site, but this sale was abandoned because it was not completed by the Jul 31, 1997, deadline. Standard Life then decided to buy the site direct, without first gaining planning permission or undertaking an environmental survey.
